About
Hi, I’m Irina.
I’ve been teaching mathematics since 2011 — in international schools, in private practice, across three countries, and online, with students from all over the world.
Most of my work is with IB Mathematics students — AA and AI, SL and HL — one at a time. Some students continue with me into university when the need is there. The focus on IB is deliberate: it means every session draws on a pattern-base built from years of work with students through the same syllabus, the same exam conditions, and the same recurring error types.
The approach starts with a diagnostic. Not a chat about what the student finds hard — a structured, two-session process that maps which subtopics are genuinely stable and which produce inconsistent results under exam conditions. That map drives everything that follows.
My total caseload stays deliberately small — not as a marketing claim, but as a practical constraint. The session notes, error logs, and stability tracking I maintain for each student require attention that doesn’t scale.
Students I work with are based across Europe, the Gulf, and Southeast Asia. All sessions are delivered online.
Background
Began teaching mathematics privately while completing undergraduate studies in Portugal.
Moved to Bogotá, Colombia, to teach at Gimnasio Británico. First sustained experience with international curriculum frameworks and a multilingual student body.
Returned to Portugal. Continued private practice alongside postgraduate study at Universidade de Aveiro.
Completed Master of Education in Mathematics Education. Research focus on formative assessment and diagnostic methods.
Private practice across Portugal, UK, and online — IGCSE, A-Level, national exams. Increasingly IB-focused as demand grew.
Focused the practice fully on IB Mathematics and built the structured one-on-one method I use today. IB is the majority — some students continue into university.
