Hi, I’m Irina.
I’ve been teaching mathematics since 2011, in international schools and through one-to-one tuition. I have worked in Portugal and Colombia and now teach students from several countries online.
Most of my work is with MYP and IB Diploma Mathematics students (AA and AI, SL and HL), one at a time. Some continue with me at university when they need support. Over the years, I have learned how students respond to different curricula and assessment conditions, and which mistakes tend to recur. I use that experience in every session.
The approach starts with a diagnostic. This is more than a conversation about what the student finds difficult: it is a structured process over two sessions that shows which subtopics are secure and which still lead to inconsistent results, including under assessment conditions where relevant. That information guides what follows.
I work with a small number of students because I keep notes after every session, analyse recurring errors and follow each student’s progress closely.
I work with students worldwide, provided we can find a time that works for both of us. All sessions take place online.

Master’s thesis: Critical Thinking and Mathematical Literacy: A Case Study in an 8th-Grade Classroom. The research used a classroom case study to examine formative assessment and diagnostic approaches in mathematics education.

Four-course programme covering curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in the IB Diploma Programme. Successful completion leads to the OISE certificate and eligibility to register for the IB Educator Certificate in Teaching and Learning — Diploma Programme.
Background
Began providing one-to-one mathematics tuition while completing a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (Licenciatura) in Portugal.
Moved to Bogotá, Colombia, to teach at Gimnasio Británico. First sustained experience with international curriculum frameworks and a multilingual student body.
Returned to Portugal. Continued one-to-one tuition alongside postgraduate study at Universidade de Aveiro.
Completed a Master’s degree in Mathematics Teacher Education (Middle and High School). Research focused on formative assessment and diagnostic methods.
One-to-one tuition in Portugal and online with students based across Europe, the Middle East and beyond: IGCSE, A levels, national curricula and, increasingly, the IB.
IB Mathematics became the core of the practice, alongside continued work with a small number of students moving into university-level mathematics. Built the structured one-to-one method I use today.
I began offering my one-to-one tuition under the name 2IB Exam Systems.
